How to Display and Care for Diecast Models

A diecast model can hold its looks (and its value) for decades with a few simple habits. Here is what experienced collectors do.

Displaying your models

• Keep them out of direct sunlight. UV light fades paint and yellows clear plastic parts over time — the number one cause of ruined displays.
• Use a display case if you can. A closed cabinet or acrylic case keeps dust off and makes cleaning almost unnecessary.
• Stable room conditions. Avoid damp basements and hot attics — big swings in temperature and humidity can affect paint, decals and rubber tires.

Handling

• Pick models up by the base or chassis, not by fragile parts like mirrors, wings or antennas.
• Opening parts (doors, hoods) are the most delicate feature on 1:18 and 1:24 models — open them gently and never force a hinge.

Cleaning

• Dust with a soft brush (a clean make-up or photography brush works well) or a dry microfiber cloth.
• Avoid household cleaners and solvents — they can lift paint and decals. If needed, a barely damp microfiber cloth is enough.

Keep the box

Original manufacturer packaging is part of a model's collectible value — store boxes flat in a dry place even if you display the model itself. This also matters for our 30-day returns, which require the original box.
